The All Progressive Congress, APC in Anambra state yesterday threatened to contest in court the results of the National Assembly held last Saturday in the state on grounds of alleged electoral fraud. Chairman of the party, Mr Emeka Ibe stated this while addressing reporters on the conduct of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
Describing the election as charade, Ibe alleged that the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA , the Peoples Democratic Party and some officials of the INEC worked in concert to ensure that APC lost in the state. ” We are rejecting the results and we are going to court to contest the results of the senate and the house of representative as announced by INEC”.
” What happened in Anamra state was not an election, it was a charade. Some INEC officials colluded with politicians in the PDP and APGA to work against us and that accounted for our dismal performance”. He cited instances where alleged PDP, APGA and soldiers were used to scare APC supporters in polling units at Nkpor, Enugwu- Ukwu, Ihiala and Onitsha south.
While praising the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega for conducting a free and fair election, he blamed Residents Electoral Commissioners for lapses witnessed in the last poll. Ibe said theAPC would not allow a repeat of what happened the last Saturday election to reoccur and boasted that the party having put its house together would sweep the poll come next Saturday House of Assembly election.
