Indian father chains 19-yr-old daughter so she does not elope with lover

A father's inhumanity to a daughterAn Indian man has been arrested by the Naswadi police in Gujarat’s tribal-dominated Chhota Udepur district, for chaining his 19-year-old daughter so as to prevent her from eloping with her lover, after she refused to go to the family of the man with whom she was married by her relatives.
The father of the girl, Vasantbhai Rathwa from Simol village, was arrested and booked him under section 342 of the Indian penal Code (IPC) for wrongful confinement.
Rathwa's crime against his daughter came to the fore when it was discovered that he used iron chains to bound his daughter's legs inside their hut after she was married off to a man she did not love and she refused to move to the man's house.
The Naswadi police said that the girl’s father and relatives had arranged her marriage to a person in Talsar village not far from their own village and she was actually married off to the man against her wishes because she had a man she loved.
The girl, however, refused to acknowledge the marriage as she was already in love with another person and instead stayed back at her father’s place where she managed to run away with the lover.
The police said it a statement:
"The girl’s relatives started searching for her and soon found her out from a nearby village. She was brought back but not let to go out. The girl’s mother is no more, so her father decided to confine her in such a way that she does not succeed in again eloping with her lover.
So on Monday, her father locked her legs using an iron chain in such a way that she could not move."

In India: Gay men forced to sleep with mother, lesbians raped by brothers

A gay man forced to sleep with his motherIn what is popularly called corrective rape rituals in some remote villages in India, men who are gay are being forced to sleep with their mothers while lesbians are raped by their brothers to cure them of their perceived anomaly.
The strange phenomenon, though gathering wide acceptance, has been condemned by members of the The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender (LGBT), community worldwide.
According to a gay rights group in that country where homosexuality is strongly frowned upon, a gay man was forced to have sex with his mother so that he can be 'cured'.
"The ‘corrective rapes' are carried out by the victim’s own family members in a desperate bid for ‘straight’ children.
The parents will arrange the rape and handpick a relative to carry out the heinous act.
In one shocking case, there are reports of family members in Bangalore forcing a gay boy to have sex with his mother to ‘cure‘ him.
In another incident, a young lesbian was raped by her cousin, while there are reports that sometimes victims’ own brothers are used to carry out the ‘corrective rape.’
If it is found out that she is in a relationship with another girl, elders in the family believe having sex with the ‘would-be’, even if it’s forcibly, will cure her.
The horrific crimes are so traumatising for their victims and they often go unreported."
In many cases in southern India, a girl may have been promised to one of her cousins at birth so it is her betrothed that is brought in to carry out the ‘corrective rape.’

How Former Governor Was Ejected From His Mansion

A former Governor of Old Anambra State, Chief Jim Nwobodo has been ejected from a mansion where he lives in Maitama, Abuja over his refusal to pay rent.
Former Governor Embarrassed In His Abuja Home
Chief Jim Nwobodo

According to This Day, an Abuja High Court ordered Nwobodo to relinquish the property to the owner, Adin-Miles International Limited. Nwobodo has reportedly not paid his rent and has also refused to vacate the building.
The property that is the subject of dispute is a six-bedroom mansion with a one-bedroom guest chalet and a two-room boys’ quarters, situated at 24 Ona Crescent, Plot 768 Cadastral Zone A5, Maitama, Abuja. The court order was given by Justice S. B. Belgore.
The owner of the property hired a lawyer,  Obinna Ajoku , to evict him from the building  when Nwobo refused to pay the rent in question. When all entreaties to Nwobodo failed, Ajoku filed a case against him at the Abuja High Court.
The property owner claimed four reliefs against Nwobodo, which includes that he should deliver vacant possession of the property, he was also ordered to pay N11 million as rent  and N3 million to renovate the premises.
Nwobodo then filed a counter claim, arguing that while the property was offered for sale, he had expressed his intention to  buy it, but did not make any payment because according to him, the plaintiff, Adin-Miles, induced his landlord to sell the property to them, which was what eventually happened.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan yesterday approved the appointment of Justice Amiru Sanusi as a justice of the Supreme Court.

Torture At NYSC Camp

A Corp Member Bunmi Adeyera with the State Code: NS/15A/0134 and Call-up no: NYSC/NIJ/2015/061287 who is currently in Nasarawa state Orientation Camp yesterday almost died at the camp due to extreme torture by security operatives.

Bunmi Adeyera
According to an eye witness who pleaded anonymity, “Bunmi is sick and today locked-up in the guard room for hours until he collapsed and became unconscious in the Guard room”.
Naij.com put a call through to Bunmi Adeyera who confirmed the incident.
Read excerpts below:
“To all my fellow NYSC corp members around Nigeria, today, I witnessed how one of my colleagues, Adeyera Olubunmi (State code: NS/15A/0134)(Call-up no.: NYSC/NIJ/2015/061287) almost died due to maltreatment in Nasarawa state NYSC camp by security officials.
What happened this morning was that Bunmi Adeyera who is also Platoon 4 leader and was obviously sick went to the Camp clinic to collect some drugs to combat his ailment and was approaching the camp market to get food (since food was no longer available in the camp kitchen) in order to use his drugs when he was stopped by security operatives (Nigerian Police force and Man’O War) and was asked to go back into the camp hall for lectures.
How NYSC Corp Member Almost Lost His Life To Torture At Camp
He tried explaining to them that he was sick and needed to take his drugs but they did not listen to him, rather he was told to start ‘frog-jumping’.Bunmi quietly explained to them that he might not be able to ‘frog-jump’ because of his health status.
The next thing I saw was that the security operatives (who were obviously Hausas, because they communicated fluently in Hausa language) told asked him if he was Hausa or Yoruba. When he told them he was Yoruba and he hails from Lagos state, they seized his NYSC identification tag and marched him straight to the ‘Guard room’ allegations of ‘being stubborn’ without giving him any chance of speaking in his own defense.

This place called Guard room is a bathroom located at the entrance gate of the Nasarawa Camp where soldiers urinate at all time and with no cross-ventilation.
We all watched them take the poor sick Corp member to the Guard Room, and was detained there going to three hours. The next thing I saw was people from the camp medical unit running towards the gate with stretcher in their hands.
Behold Bunmi had collapsed and fainted in the so-called guard room.
Even while the Red Cross team was trying to rescue the situation, the soldiers sent them back saying that all was pretence and that when he wakes up, he will return to the guard room.
The doctors battled for his life for about an hour before Bunmi Adeyera became conscious again and was later stabilized.
Every Corp member on Camp including NYSC officials know Bunmi to be easy-going, obedient and friend to all which is more reason he emerged the leader of Platoon 4.
The population of those who went to the clinic to check on him is one that I have never seen on camp although they wouldn’t allow us take pictures of this ugly incidence.
But my question is this why is it that we Corp members who have in good faith and humility come to serve our father land are being maltreated even to the extent of someone fainting. This should not continue.” All these security agents should be careful in performing their duties and should remember that the pen is powerful than the sword…
Bunmi Adeyera is a graduate of mass communication from The Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba Lagos State. All attempts to reach the Nasarawa state co-ordinator, Mrs. C.I Uba, proved abortive.
