30 Ugly Habits To Seriously Drop Before You Reach 30
As much as you may not want to hear the truth, no one really likes an
overgrown baby, it reduces the tendency for people to take you or the
word you say with a pinch of salt.
You were once a teenager and
then it was allowed to do all the crazy things because you felt it was
part of growing up but as you are almost hitting the big 3-0, time is
certainly ripe to leave those habits behind.
As
much as you may not want to hear the truth, no one really likes an
overgrown baby, it reduces the tendency for people to take you or the
word you say with a pinch of salt, and that's really not a good thing
for your image.
Alex Alexander of YourTango lists 30 things to desperately drop before you turn 30:
- Dating.
- Sleeping on a makeshift bed.
- Drinking until you're blackout drunk.
- Wearing dresses that don't properly cover your butt.
- Staying in hostels, especially in dorm rooms with strangers.
- Obsessing over your high school sweetheart.
- Obsessing over your college sweetheart.
- Using the "f-bomb" every 5 seconds.
- Wearing your makeup to bed.
- Staying out all night.
- Making out with 21-year-olds at parties.
- Living with your parents.
- Dating someone who lives with their parents. (Although some people make a convincing case for the opposite.)
- Borrowing money from your parents to take someone on a date.
- Having multiple one-night stands.
- Making out with your BFFs at bars for attention.
- Making out with your boyfriend at bars for attention.
- Carrying a torch for anyone you haven't seen in the last five years.
- Declaring an entire gender "all jerks."
- Skipping regular gyno exams.
- Crushing on Justin Bieber.
- Expecting a man/knight in shining armor to swoop in and save her.
- Using Tinder to pick up guys.
- Expecting a man to do all the wooing.
- And a few, courtesy of Twitter:
- You shouldn't date anyone under 25.
- Going to nightclubs every weekend and getting drunk. Have some morals and responsibilities.
- Saying "I'll settle down when I get older."
- Dating teenage boys.
- Clubbing at 18+ clubs.

Why Biting Your Nails Is Bad For Your Health
Sure, biting and picking at your
nails is kinda gross. Apart from the fact that you are ruining your
perfect manicure, biting your nails can raise the risk of catching a
cold or other illness because you're putting your unwashed hands in your
mouth. It can also raise the risk of paronychia, or infection of the
skin surrounding the nail.
You can end up with
redness and swelling and pain and discomfort that's a sign of infection.
While most instances of paronychia are bacterial, they can also be
fungal.
In addition, if you have a wart, biting
your fingernails is a way to raise your risk of spreading warts to other
parts of your hands. That's because warts are caused by one of the many
kinds of human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus that spreads as an
infection. The more open skin you have, the more you're going to spread.
Biting
or picking your nails could also lead to temporary or permanent effects
to your actual nail. The majority of the fingernail is produced in the
area of the nail bed where there is a "white hill," also called the
lunula. The fingernail is made there, as well as the area beneath the
lunula that extends down underneath the skin. So if you end up with a
lot of inflammation or an infection of that skin where the fingernail is
made, you may end up with a fingernail that's bumpy or ridge-y."
Sometimes
these effects are temporary. An infection that lasts a week or two
might lead to a funny-looking nail for a short period of time, she says.
But you can also do permanent damage to the area, so you forever make a
funny nail
Nail biting can also have effects on
your teeth: As Everyday Health points out, it can lead to teeth shifting
out of place, as well as potential breaks in teeth or tooth enamel.
So
what can you do to kick the habit? I know most people bite or pick at
their fingernails as a way of relieving, or channeling, stress. Finding
another way to release that stress that doesn't involve picking at or
gnawing on a part of your body -- could be useful. Try twirling a ring
instead, or playing with a hair tie on your wrist.
Basically,
instead of telling someone [to] just stop, maybe you can come up with
another way of relieving the stress and doesn't end up causing damage.
What To Eat After Exercise
For the umpteenth time eating properly is very important as it would help you recover from the wear and tear of exercise.
Here are six rules to follow as suggested by fitness expert Cynthia Sass . Try them and am sure you would witness some changes.
Eat within 30 to 60 minutes after exercise.
If
you've had a particularly tough workout, try to eat a "recovery" meal
as soon as possible. Exercise puts stress on your muscles, joints, and
bones, and your body "uses up" nutrients during workouts; so
post-exercise foods are all about putting back what you've lost, and
providing the raw materials needed for repair and healing. In fact, it's
the recovery from exercise that really allows you to see results in
terms of building strength, endurance, and lean muscle tissue. Not
recovering properly can leave you weaker as you go into your next
workout, and up your injury risk.
Think beyond protein.
Protein
is a building block of muscle, so it is important post exercise, but an
ideal recovery meal should also include good fat (also needed for
healing muscles and joints), as well as plenty of nutrient-rich produce,
and a healthy source of starch such as quinoa, sweet potato, or beans.
These foods replenish nutrients that have been depleted, and provide
energy to fuel your post-exercise metabolism. A great post-workout meal
might be something like a smoothie made with either pea protein powder
or grass-fed organic whey protein, whipped with fruit, leafy greens,
almond butter or coconut oil, and oats or quinoa, or an omelet made with
one whole organic egg and three whites, paired with veggies, avocado
and black beans.
Keep it real.
The
phrase "you are what you eat" couldn't be more true. Nutrients from the
foods you eat food are the foundation of the structure, function, and
integrity of every one of your cells. Your body is continuously
repairing, healing, and rebuilding itself, and how healthy your new
cells are is directly determined by how well you've been eating. In
short, your body is essentially one big miraculous construction site
that's open 24/7. So even if you're lean and you burn a lot of calories,
avoiding highly processed food and eating a clean, nutrient rich, whole
foods diet can help you get the most out of all of your hard work,
including cells that function better, and are less susceptible to
premature aging, injury and disease.
Don't overcompensate.
If
weight loss is one of your goals, it's important to not overestimate
how much extra food you "earned" working out. In fact, it's incredibly
easy to "eat back" all of what you've burned. And if you're going to be
eating a meal within an hour of finishing up a workout, you don't also
need a post-exercise bar or snack.
Rehydrate.
If
you sweat heavily, exercise in high humidity (which prevents cooling of
the body) or your workouts last longer than 60 minutes, you might need a
sports drink rather than plain water during exercise. These beverages
are designed to keep you well hydrated, but they also provide
electrolytes to replace those lost in your sweat (like sodium, which
makes sweat salty; and potassium, which helps regulate heart rhythm), as
well as fuel to keep you going. If your workouts are less strenuous,
shorter, climate controlled, or not so sweaty, plain HO is probably
fine. The general rule of thumb is to drink at least two cups of fluid
two hours before exercise, another two cups 15 minutes prior, and a
half-cup every 15 minutes during. Post exercise, aim for two cups of
water (16 ounces) for every pound of body weight lost, and monitor the
color of your urine -- if you're well hydrated it should be pale.
Watch your alcohol intake.
Many
athletes and active people I work with enjoy imbibing a bit after
working out. Alcohol in moderation is fine, but be sure to eat first to
start the recovery process. Also, it's important to know that alcohol
has been shown to accelerate post-exercise muscle loss and the loss of
muscle strength by as much as 40%. It can also interfere with
replenishing glycogen, the storage form of carbohydrates you stock away
in your muscles to serve as energy "piggy banks." Less glycogen can
translate into a lack of power or endurance during your next workout, so
aim for moderation.

Tricycle Driver Murdered By Cultist In Lagos
A tricycle operator has been killed in Lagos by suspected cultist in what is seen as a case of mistaken identity.
A 25-year-old tricycle driver, Debo Oturu, fell victim to some mindless hoodlums suspected to be cultists in Mushin area of Lagos State as he was murdered while on his way to visit his mother.
The
incident which happened on Lawani Street in the area, according to
residents, must have been a case of mistaken identity as the young man
did not live in the area and only came once in a while to visit his mum.
Reports
have it that the indigene of Ose local government area, Ondo State, was
shot several times by the cultists who must have mistaken him for a
rival.
An eyewitness, Bolaji Kosoko, who also
sustained gunshot injuries in the rampage, said a member of the gang
pursued him for raising the alarm when they were shooting the tricycle
driver.
"It was at about 10 pm on Friday, (May
15). I was discussing with my friend and also preparing to take dinner
when I heard a gunshot.
I shouted, ‘which
bastard is that?’ Then the gunshots increased. One of the gunmen ran
after me. He shot me in the back and leg. I don’t know how I survived
it; I could have died."
Kosoko said some of his friends assisted him to a place where he received treatment, while the tricyclist died on the spot.
His sister, Alaba Laitan, narrated the circumstances that led to her brother's dead:
"When
he came, he told me he was hungry, that I should prepare food for him. I
was preparing the food when he said he wanted to buy sachet water,
adding that he would take the food along with him to Oyingbo.
All
of us were at the backyard when those boys entered the house. They shot
him in the buttocks, head and leg. His body was riddled with bullets."
Sleep Helps The Brain Get Rid Of Waste
Researchers have revealed that sleep is an opportunity for the brain to be cleared of waste.
According to research done by a group led by Prof Maiken Nedergaard at the University of Rochester Medical Centre, New York, it was discovered that a network of microscopic fluid-filled channels in rats clear waste chemicals from the brain.
Prof Nedergaard added that this process occurs mostly when the brain is shut off. According to the good professor:
"You
can think of it like having a house party. You can either entertain the
guests or clean up the house, but you can't really do both at the same
time."
Other research also revealed that a lack of sleep alters the way in which the genes in the body's cells behave.
Researchers at Surrey University in Guildford
found that genes involved in inflammation seem to increase their
activity when the body lacks sleep and it was believed that the gene was
responding to the lack of sleep as if the body is under stress.
This, according to Dr Malcolm von Schantz,
who was a member of the Surrey research team, could easily help explain
the links between sleep deprivation and negative health outcomes such
as heart disease and stroke.
Furthermore, research suggests that parts of the human brain may well be asleep when it is sleep-deprived.
This
was illustrated by studies on whales and dolphins which show that when
asleep they continue to use half of their brain to swim and come up to
the surface for air, which a study on human patients showed similarly
goes on in our brains.
As people became more sleep-deprived, parts of their brain became inactive while they were still awake.
The moral of the story: sleep is very essential and a lack of it is detrimental to good health and well-being.

Buhari Appoints His Spokesperson
The President-elect, Gen Buhari has appointed Mr. Femi Adeshina as his Special Adviser (SA) on Media and Publicity.
Though yet to be officially announced, Thisday gathered that all formalities for Adeshina’s appointment have already been concluded. Adeshina, is the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun newspaper. He is also the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).
The Sun Newspaper, it was gathered, is already concluding plans to re-jig its management structure following Adesina’s imminent departure.
With this appointment, Adesina becomes the second person to be appointed while serving as the president of the NGE. The first person was the late Mrs. Remi Oyo, who was appointed by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Adesina started his career at the Vanguard Newspapers as a ‘feature writer’ before he later joined the National Concord Newspapers. He resumed with The Sun newspaper when they came on board as an editor, and later the managing director and editor-in-chief.
Adeshina has over 28 years of experience in the media industry, he took The Sun to a new height. Under his leadership, the newspaper won several reputable awards. In 2007, he was named the Editor of the Year by the Nigeria Media Merit Award.
Adeshina’s appointment is ironical due to the fact that The Sun newspaper, which he presided over was responsible for publishing offensive adverts against Buhari, as projected by Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose.
However, Adeshina has no say in regards to the adverts that are published as he is just an employee. The advert campaign was a delicate indirect attack on Buhari’s health.
Meanwhile, Adeshina has explained the reason why the adverts were published under his watch.

Shettima Reveals Location Of Chibok Girls
Governor Shettima of Borno State has revealed where the 200 missing Chibok Girls were likely held.
The children were abducted more than a year ago. Since then, the local and global forces have made dozens of attempts to locate the victims.
The most sensational breakthrough was believed to have been recorded in May of 2014. Alex Badeh, the Chief of Defence Staff, said that the military had discovered the girls’ whereabouts.
Time was passing by and the children remained in captivity. The military authorities were under attack over not being able to rescue the hostages.
In a recent period several people who escaped from Boko Haram have said they saw some of the girls in Gwoza, Borno state.
However, the fresh claim made by Governor Shettima, during Abuja conference might become the final step on the way to the Chibok girls rescue.
Shettima said there was every tendency that the female students were being held in bunkers inside Sambisa Forest, Vanguard reports. The governor, represented by Bulama Mala Gubio, the secretary of Borno Elders Forum, said:
“We are suspecting that Chibok girls are living with the insurgents in bunkers, I think the military must carry out their operations beyond the surface earth.
“They (Boko Haram) were also known to have dug tunnels to enable them move from house to house. So, having been left unchallenged for such a long time, such possibilities cannot be ruled out which poses serious obstacles within the forest.
“The insurgents used their bases in the Sambisa Forest to launch deadly attacks and make quick retreat to their base which enabled them capture and take over control of all the local government areas bordering Nigeria with Cameroon, Chad and Niger, thus effectively cutting off the three neighbouring countries thereby declaring what they assumed was their their independent territory (caliphate).”
Leadership adds that Shettima, urged the incoming government to transform the forest and put it to profitable use after totally ridding of terrorists there.
“Unless and only if the Sambisa Forest is effectively recovered from the occupation of the terrorists can we think of defeating the Boko Haram and begin to comprehensively embark on a holistic approach for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the North-East. In fact, at several stages, the Borno state government had intervened to reconstruct destroyed schools, health centres, homes, markets and so on, only for the insurgents to attack and destroy them again,” he said.
The governor also criticized President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration over neglecting the region affected by insurgency.
“As a government, we have spent over N600 million, but all we have received from the Federal Government is N200 million. The same Federal Government has approved over N2 billion on dancers (entertainers) as loan,” Shettima said.
Within the past month the Nigerian troops have rescued hundreds of women and children from Sambisa Forest. The operation in the insurgents’ hideout continues. After Shettima’s claims hopes emerged that the Chibok girls would be freed soon.

Buhari Could Be Dragged To Court For Dropping Title
The President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari could be dragged to court for telling media to drop his Military title after May 29.
Lagos-based lawyer and rights activist, Mr. Ebun Adegboruwa in a released statement said it was illegal for Buhari to drop his Major-General title having enjoyed the benefits the title has brought his after retiring from the military service.
The lawyer says Buhari must carry the cross that the name brings for him. He says Buhari should be proud of his title and will have to accept that he would be referred to as a Major-General.
The statemnt in part reads, “by virtue of Paragraph 1(1) of the 1st Schedule of the Armed Forces Pensions Act, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) is entitled to, and has indeed been receiving and benefiting from pension, as an officer who held a regular commission, before his retirement.
“Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) is the official and legal status, title, designation and appellation of our President-elect. He has no choice in the matter, but to continue to carry this cross for life.
“The military world over is a dignified institution, built on discipline, selflessness, courage, dignity, loyalty and patriotism.
“Buhari attends the Council of State meetings as former Head of State, which office he held in his capacity as a Major-General, which officially qualifies him to earn some benefits, have security aides, salaries, emoluments, diplomatic passports as well as free medical treatment, home and abroad.
“It is an institution that everyone should be proud of, except those of them who were trained and equipped by this noble institution, but chose to capture civilian power, through coup d’etat.
“From all the foregoing, I therefore humbly appeal to the President-elect to continue to bear his official name and status, by which he once climbed to power. I do sincerely sympathise with him on the very sad and distasteful memories that this title attracts to him. But it is his cross to carry.
“Nigerians voted for him in spite of his past and that should be enough encouragement for him to strive to erase any negative impression that it may have occasioned.”
Buhari a retired Major General in theNigerian Army who was Head of State of Nigeria from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985, after taking power in a military coup d’état.
He was elected president of Nigeria after he won the 2015 general election, defeating the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.

Nyanya Bomb Blast: Trial Of Ogwuche And Five Others
The trial of Amnu Ogwuche and five others, on Tuesday May 19, restarted at Federal High Court in Abuja on the Nyanya bomb blast which occurred on April 14, 2014.
The bombing, which occurred on April 14, 2014, has been described as one of the single worst bombing to happen on Nigeria soil since the civil war ended.
The government in a bid to seal the case, presented its star witness, identified as PW-1, who took his time to detail how undercover operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) apprehended each of the six accused persons.
The PW-1 revealed that Ogwuche, had flown to Sudan, while his five collaborators scattered themselves to different states in the Northern part of the country.
The five other collaborators names were given as Ahmad Rufai Abubakar (a.k.a Abu Ibrahim/Maiturare), Mohammed Sani Ishaq, Ya’u Saidu (a.k.a Kofar Rama), Anas Isah, Adamu Yusuf and Nasiru Abubakar.
The accused are charged with committing an offence contrary to sections 1, 2(a), 5, 8, 16 and 17 of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act of 2013.
Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mr. M.S. Diri, informed the court yesterday, that they have a roll call of five witnesses and will tender 37 exhibits in the course of the trial.
“The facts of the case are stated in the proof of evidence which has already been served on the accused persons. With the kind permission of the court I wish to call the PW-1. The name of the PW-1 is the first on the list of witnesses before the court”, the DPP added.
Meanwhile, Evidence in Chief, PW-1, told the court that Ahmad Abubakar, the second accused was the first to be apprehended by the DSS.
He said that Abubakar was captured on April 22, 2014, at Sanga Local Government Area in Kaduna State.
According to the PW-1: “ I work with the DSS as an investigator. My lord I know the six accused persons. I came to know them when there was a bomb blast at El-Rufai Park in Nyanya, Abuja, on April 14, 2014.
“I was directed to investigate the bomb blast, where a vehicle was used to detonate an IED . During the course of the investigation, these accused persons were arrested. The first to be arrested was Ahmad Abubakar (2nd accused person). He was arrested on April 22, 2014, at Sanga in Kaduna state.
“The second person we arrested was Muhammadu Sani Ishaq (3rd accused). He was arrested at Jabi in FCT on April 24. The third person that was arrested was Y’au ( 4th accused) on April 29, in Kano state. On May 3, we caught Anas, the 5th accused person in Katsina state and later arrested Adamu (6th accused) in Bauchi on May 5.
“The last person we arrested was Aminu Ogwuche. My Lord he was arrested in Sudan and extradited to Nigeria. He was brought back to this country on July 15. My lord I had known Ogwuche before the other suspects. I got to know him in 2011 when he was deported from the United Kingdom by the British government because of two major reasons. He was then deported because he belonged to a terrorist group that was banned in the UK.”
The Nyanya bomb blast reportedly killed no fewer than 75 people. After Ogwuche was extradited and jailed without charge, he requested for bail on the ground that the constitution was being ignored.

PDP CRISIS: Uche Secondus Takes Over As National Chairman, Mu'azu Resigns
The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Mu'azu has reigned.
This comes after several bigwigs of the party blamed him for President Goodluck Jonathan’s defeat at the just concluded presidential poll and demanded his resignation.
In a report published by This day, his resignation took effect immediately.
However, a source, who spoke with Premium Times, revealed that the embattled chairman was advised by his close friends and associates to resign, at a meeting held on Tuesday night in Abuja.
According to Vanguard, a letter written by Muazu and addressed to the Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus reads, “Due to the abysmal performance of the party during the March 28 Presidential election, it became imperative for him (Muazu) to go and for peace to reign in the PDP”.
In the letter, Muazu asked Secondus to step in as acting National Chairman in line with the party’s constitution.
Muazu’s resignation was envisaged after it was reported that the spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, told reporters at the party’s head office in Abuja, to expect a “breaking news” briefing from him later in the day.
The National Working Committe (NWC) is currently holding a meeting at Wadata Plaza and Mr. Metuh, is expected to address the press after the meeting.
Reports also indicate that President Jonathan has asked the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), Chief Anthony Anenih, to step down from his office as the BOT chairman.
However, it’s still yet to be ascertained if Anenih, has accepted to resign or not.
The PDP crisis continued to soar as a result of Mu’azu’s failure to deliver victory at the just concluded 2015 general elections.
