PDP Governors Urge Party Chair To Resign

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly begun urging the party's National Chairman,Adamu Mu’azu to resign.
The motion is reportedly being led by the PDP governors who are also said to be pressuring other members of the the party’s bNational Working Committee (NWC) to vacate their offices.
This was supposedly the topic of discussion during a PDP stakeholders meeting which held on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at the Akwa Ibom State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
“We told him to resign and go with members of the NWC that he’s leading. That is the general opinion of the governors and we told him. We said that having led the party to this level which is historical because we have never been this defeated since the party was formed, the honourable thing was for him to leave,”one governor, who chose to remain anonymous, told Punch.
“That is what is expected of him; that is what is done in all advanced democracies,” he added.
The governors are believed to be calling for Mu’azu’s resignation due to the resounding defeat the PDP suffered during the recently concluded general elections.
However PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh has said that it’s wrong for anyone to blame the party’s loss on the chairman and the NWC.
“We were not the ones who handled the campaigns and we were not part of the elections. Did the NWC members stand for any election? The governors are the ones who are running the party in their states as the party is just a department of the government,” Metuh said.
The PDP has lost its position as ruling party due to President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari’s victory over President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 elections.
The PDP has also lost its majority position in the Senate and House of Representatives.
