The Brazilians have leapfrogged Orlando Pirates to move to 51 points from 28 matches, while Dikwena remain 13th on 31 points from 28 matches – just four points above the relegation zone.
Sundowns took control of the game and established a 2-0 lead thanks to strikes from Hlompho Kekana and Katlego Mashego in the 15th and 28th minutes respectively.
Stars struck back just before the halftime break, with Letladi Madubanya scoring in injury time to send the teams to the interval with the score 2-1 in favour of the visitors.
The second half saw no further goals, though Stars’ hopes of mounting a comeback were put on ice when midfielder Solomon Mathe was sent off in the 66th minute for a second bookable offence.
Sundowns will play away to SuperSport United in their penultimate league match on Wednesday evening, while Stars host Polokwane City at the same time.
