Following the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Adamu Mu'azu, the Director Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode has called on the Publicity Secretary, PDP, Mr. Olisa Metuh to resign and some members of the National Working Committee(NWC) to do same.
Fani-Kayode in a statement released earlier this week, described some members of the party’s National Working Committes as “enemy within us”, alleging that two members of the committee were working for the opposition in the course of the election.
This elicited severe revulsion amongst the bigwigs in the party who called for disciplinary measures to be taken against him.
However, Fani-Kayode has dismissed these reports. He said he will not be put on the defensive for simply doing his job.
He insisted that he stands by all the comments he made about the NWC of the party, while also calling for the resignation of the National Secretary of the party, Prof. Wole Oladipo and the National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh.
Speaking to Channels TV on May 20, Wednesday, he said: “The issue they addressed in their letter will be addressed by the people they wrote their letter to. I will not dignify that kind of rubbish with any kind of response.
“What I am trying to tell you is that I will not be put on the defensive here. Those that need to be on the defensive are those that cheated their party members, Those that lied to their party members, those that betrayed the presidential campaign organization and sought to degrade us and ensured that we couldn’t do our job.”
“These are the people that have questions to answer and I am saying to you, I am reiterating a call of the overwhelming majority of party members, overwhelming number of governors, overwhelming number of elder statesmen within the party. And that call is simply this, They should resign. That is the issue for us. And we are happy that Muazu had finally answered the call and done the honorable thing. When will Metuh do it? When will Oladipo do it? When will the rest of them do it? That is what we are waiting for.”
“So its not about Femi Fani Kayode. Its not about my record in public office. What it is about is that their time is long overdue and they need to go. And the other issue is that I stand by what we said yesterday. All the comments we made about them. Their ineptitude their greed and their cowardice and their malicious intent.”
Meanwhile, embattled national chairman of the PDP, Adamu Mu’azu, finally gave in to pressure by resigning as the party’s chairman yesterday and passing over the baton of leadership to Uche Secondus who steps in as Acting National Chairman of the PDP.
