One of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions,
Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB may soon join the growing list of casualties of
the lingering fuel scarcity in the country, Naij.com has learnt.
This is coming on the heels of a total shut down by various radio stations in the country following their inability to power their generating sets as the ongoing fuel scarcity scourge gets thicker.
In a press statement released Sunday evening, the management of the bank stated that from Monday, May 25, all branches of the company will start closing by 1pm as they have found it difficult to get diesel to power their plants across the country.
The statement made available to Naij.com reads: “the current shortage of petroleum products in the country has limited our ability to supply diesel to all our branches in order to continue normal branch operations. Due to this, we unavoidably have to close our branches nationwide at 1pm from tomorrow (Monday)
“Whilst we have had to take this step to close branch operations early, we would like to seek your understanding at this time, and assure you that we will continue to work hard at finding alternative solutions to this situation and will advise you once the situation has abated.
“We sincerely apologise for every inconvenience this might cause you”.
Telecommunication giant, MTN had earlier informed of the possibility of shutting down within the next 24hours as the fuel scarcity keeps biting hard into the nation’s economy.
Meanwhile, Capital Oil and Gas boss, Ifeanyi Uba, has promised to rescue the country from its present state as he has reportedly ordered that 13million litres of petroleum be circulated throughout the federation before dawn today.
