South East APC Carcus Meets Buhari

Members of the North East Carcus of the All Progressives Congress, APC met with the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at the Defence House, Abuja, April 30 2015.

The meeting was full of events and has produced some curious results and declarations.
Buhari assured that his administration would be not spare any security operative found guilty of electoral offences in the March 28/April 11 general elections. He stressed that the crimes of ballot box snatching and the prevention of the use of card readers must not be tolerated. According to the retired general, the personnel of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Security Service and other paramilitary organisations are subjects to investigations.
The attention of the president-elect is primarily on Edo, Imo and Rivers. Buhari has already gave orders to document all the offences alleged to have been perpetrated by the personnel in these states.
The president-elect praised the governors of the respective states, Adams Oshiomhole, Rochas Okorocha and Chibuike Amaechi, for their efforts to prevent mass disruptions of the electoral procedures, such as ballot boxes snatching and ban on the use of card readers.
In their return the South East caucus asked for Buhari’s assistance in getting the slot of the Speakership or Deputy Speakership of the House of Reps. The caucus also nominated Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the former governor of Abia state, as choice for the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, in case the zone does not secure the mentioned positions.
“We know that we have lost out for the position of the senate presidency because we did not have ranking senator returned to the National assembly, we however appeal and we believe that you will be generous enough to consider the South East region to be considered for the position of the SGF,” Governor Okorocha, who led the caucus, said.

The governor of Imo state reminded about the role of the zone in Jonathan’s defeat.
“The South East played a very key role in the victory of General Muhammadu Buhari, considering what happened in 2011 when the PDP returned about 7 million votes, but this time around it’s no longer possible. In the next dispensation, the entire South East will be APC.
“Nigeria is more united now. The division that existed in the country had been reduced due to Buhari’s victory,” Okorocha concluded.
In his reaction, Buhari expressed gratitude to the APC in the South East for the role it played in ensuring that it reduced the deficit of votes the PDP gathered in the region. He assured that his administration would carry everyone along, irrespective of race, region and tribe.

Muhammadu Buhari, the APC candidate, won the presidential election after three unsuccessful attempts. He takes over from the outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan, on the Democracy Day, May 29.
