Two commercial bus conductors have been arrested in Lagos.
The two bus conductors, Wasiu Lawal, 30 and 29-year-old Micheal Judge were on Tuesday docked at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly damaging a man’s eye. Vanguard reports that the accused who live at Small Kuramo, off Lekki Beach Road, Lagos, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.
The Prosecutor, Sgt Babaji Ishiaku told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 8 at 9.00 p.m. at Small Kuramo, off Lekki Beach Road, Jakande- Lekki. He said the accused allegedly assaulted one Edet Okon, a palm wine seller, by punching him on the eye, causing him partial blindness.

‘The accused had an argument with the palm wine seller which resulted in giving him blows on the face, injuring his eye in the process. The offences contravened Sections 171 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.”
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. Section 171 provides three years imprisonment for assault, while Section 409 prescribes a two-year jail term for conspiracy. Counsel to the accused, Mrs N. G. Lawani, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms. The Magistrate, Mrs L.Y. Balogun, admitted them to a bail of N50, 000 each with one responsible surety each in like sum. She said the addresses of the sureties should be verified and adjourned the case to May 6 for mention.
