Unidentified gunmen on April 21, Tuesday, killed a local coordinator of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, already the governor-elect of Kaduna state.
The information was officially provided by Samuel Aruwan, El-Rufai’s spokesman through a statement published on Premium Times.
Aruwan disclosed that the victim, Markus Ishaya, had been shot several times by the unknown armed men who had trailed him to his village in Jema’a LGA of the state. The official added that the investigation into the murder of Atuku Ward coordinator had started.
“His family informed us that unknown gunmen stormed his residence and shot him several times.
“The men, two in number, were well armed and did not pick any property in his residence except carrying out the ungodly act.
“The police have confirmed the incident. The police have also visited the scene of the crime and have commenced investigation.
“While we appreciate their prompt action, our expectation is that the security agencies will fully investigate this killing and prosecute the perpetrators.
“Security agencies must adequately protect all Nigerians irrespective of their status and standing.”
Reacting to the unfortunate development, the governor-elect directed condolences to the family of the deceased as he said:
“Our empathy and prayers go to the family of Mr. Markus Ishaya and the entire community over this callous murder and desecration of human life.
“May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family and friends the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
It is worth noting that based on the governorship election outcome, the campaign of the All Progressives Congress politician across the state can be definitely described as successful. The APC polled 1,117,635 votes while the PDP received 485,833 votes. The coordinators on site, including late Markus Ishaya, demonstrated great dedication to the common goal.
