Enugu State Impeachment Saga: We are unaware of any Impeachment process against the Governor-CPS to the Governor.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Enugu State, Mr. Chukwudi Achife has reacted to reports of impeachment against Governor Sullivan Chime by the Enugu State House of Assembly

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Chukwudi Achife, made this known in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu.

It would be recalled that a 15-member faction of the Enugu State House of Assembly led by the Speaker, Eugene Odo, had early Monday commenced the impeachment process against Mr. Chime, alleging financial misconduct.
The members, who sat in the early hours of Monday in the legislative chambers amidst tight security, alleged that the governor manipulated the 2014 Appropriation Bill, among other impeachable offenses.
Governor Chime is accused of high handedness and corrupt enrichment.
They directed the Clerk, Christopher Chukwurah, to communicate their resolution to the governor.
However, the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Achife, described the action the 15-member faction of the assembly as “null and void”.
According to him, the state government was still trying to come to terms with the realities of a change in the leadership of the house.

“What we should be talking about is the new leadership of the House of Assembly and not what the old one did.
“The process is perpetrated by those leaving the government on May 29 and that is why they are furious.
“No impeachment notice has been served on the governor; we must get that straight,’’ he said.

Meanwhile, the crisis currently rocking the Enugu State House of Assembly has claimed its first casualty with the impeachment of the Speaker, Hon. Eugene Odoh.
However, just as  Governor Chime prepares to handover to the governor-elect, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, reports say he has already moved out of the Enugu state Government House.
Sullivan Iheanacho Chime (born 10 April 1959) was elected governor of Enugu State in Nigeria in April 2007, taking office on 29 May 2007 from ex-Governor Chimaroke Nnamani. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He was reelected on 26 April 2011. Chime has five children: Ada Chime, Nnamdi Chime, Tochukwu Chime, Ezinne Chime, Ugomsi Chime. He was married to Clara Chime.
