Thugs Attack The Nation Newspapers' Office

The office The Nation Newspaper in Port Harcourt was attacked by thugs and hoodlums today.

Alleged PDP Thugs Attack The Nation Office

According to reports, the said attack on the newspaper house occurred on Thursday May 7, when the hoodlums were being chased out of the State by the state government.
According to The Nation, the attackers who promised to launch a full scale attack when “their government,” apparently referring to the incoming Nyesom Wike’s administration, takes over on May 29, also vowed to take over the company’s press house on that day.
Protesting why the state government demolished the Njemanze waterfront that was known as a notorious a hideout for criminals, they threatened that they “may get angry and  kill all The Nation staff in one day.”
Recounting his ordeal at the hand of the attackers, Mr. Moses Abimbola, the company’s security officer said: “The thugs shot one of our workers and broke my head with their gun after collecting my money and phone. The criminals said they lost their territory to Rotimi Amaechi’s administration and that it is time to reclaim the waterfront.”
In calling on the police to save the lives of the Nation staff, Mr. Olatunde Olasogba, the General Manager in-charge of South-South / South –East said apart from the daily attacks on the company’s staff at the press house, his drivers have been encountering armed robbery problems on the Port Harcourt route.
He therefore pleaded with the Police to remedy the situation by deploying a patrol team at Njemanze waterfront where The Nation office is located.

Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the Rivers state gubernatorial election, defeating Dr. Dakuku Peterside of the All Progressives Congress (APC) under controversial circumstances.
