Former President of Federal Republic of Nigeria,
General Olusegun Obasanjo attended the last hour in Tuesday’s
Council of state meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
It would be recalled that General Obasanjo boycotted the last council of state meeting held on February 5.
Weeks after that, President Jonathan revealed why General Obasanjo avoided him and why the former head of state has been throwing jabs at him.
According to him (Jonathan), Chief Obasanjo’s attacks on him were as a result of his failure to surrender his administration to the former leader.
Jonathan said Obasanjo was so bent on controlling his government that he would not mind installing the devil in power so long as he can control him.
However, according to a report by The Nation, the former president entered the Council Chamber venue of the meeting at 12.10pm, about 40 minutes behind schedule as it was reported that the meeting started at 11.30am after the arrival of President Goodluck Jonathan.
This comes after the Daily Trust reported that the ex-president boycotted the meeting which is supposed to be the last under outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan.
However, the ex-leaders in attendance at the meeting are former President Shehu Shagari, former Head of State Generals Yakubu Gowon, Muhammadu Buhari, Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, Abdulsalami Abubakar and former head of the National Interim Government Earnest Shonekan.
The Senate President, David Mark led his team of lawmakers which includes; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Chief Justices of Nigeria including Muhammadu Uwais, Alfa Belgore and Idris Kutigi.
The state governors present at the meeting include; Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Aliyu Wamakko (Sokoto), Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers), Ramalan Yero (Kanuda), Sarieke Dickson (Bayelsa), James Ngilari (Adamawa), Tanko Almakura(Nasarawa) and Gabriel Suswam(Benue), Martin Elechi (Ebonyi), Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Jonah Jang (Plateau) Liyel Imoke(Cross River), and Acting governor of Taraba State.
Kano, Kogi, Oyo and Yobe States were represented by their deputy governors.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Anyim Pius Anyim, National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki and the Chief of Staff to the President, Jones Arogbofa also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the transition committees of the outgoing president, Goodluck Jonathan and the incoming president, General Muhammadu Buharinon Monday 11 denied any rift between them regarding the power handover.
