The wife of the President-elect, Aisha Buhari makes case for girl-child protection

Mrs Buhari has emphasized while speaking on the side-line of the Global Women Conference organised in Buenos Aires, Argentina, briefly after her presentation on the danger women and girl child oppose every day.
Social presence and authorization for women were topped discussions at the meeting.
Buhari’s wife said global legislation stayed the key to most problems facing women.
Aisha also asked for legislation against child marriage.
Hannatu Ngilari, Hajo Sani and Mariyya Zayyan, were part of the Nigerian delegation at the gathering and made their contribution.
Mrs Buhari pressed for legislation that would protect women and the girl child.
The Nigerian delegation said they selected a few ideas that would improve women empowerment scheme back in Nigeria.
The meeting concluded with a call on government and international organisations to upsurge the participation of women in decision making process.

The practice of early marriage in Nigeria is predominant. This can partly be clarified because Nigeria is very much divided on religious grounds. The South is mainly Christian and the North is principally Islam.
In Nigeria, the federal law prohibits the marriage of persons that are below eighteen. Meanwhile, the states in Nigeria that implements Sharia law, at least their own version of it, do not forbid child marriage.
