Don't Go Nude To Portray Prostitution- Sola Sobowale

Place side by side, the movie making industry of Nigeria then, and the Nollywood of now,  you would agree that so much has changed, and that’s what Sola Sobowale, is letting out on.
One would readily expect a scantily dressed female when required to play the role of a prostitute, as opposed to the way prostitution was portrayed in the movies back then.
A veteran that she is, Sola Sobowale, shed light on what is entails playing the role of a prostitute in a movie.
Opening up on actresses that go nude in the name of acting, Sobowale, who was questioned by a particular news agency as regards her utter disgust at this act said:

“I don’t get annoyed, the bottom line is this; nobody forces you to do anything. We need education and we need exposure.
“I’m a typical Nigerian woman, I love my Naija and our culture; there are some things we don’t do, it’s not in our culture. If we say we want to do it, we can do it in our house under our roof not in public because you get no respect doing that.
“Our producers and directors need to know that when you are acting as a prostitute, you don’t need to remove your dress to become a prostitute. You don’t need to be touched to act as a grade ‘A’ prostitute.
“I did Asewo to Re Mecca, the pace setter, fantastic; myself and Toyin Adegbola. I played the number 1 Asewo and I introduced Toyin’s character to it. We didn’t remove anything and it was talk of the town.
“When the producers know this, you will not see nakedness again. We should want people to respect us and respect this profession,” she said.

From the above words of the movie thespian, one can deduce that she is one who upholds morals and ethics of her culture.
Sola Sobowale has three children, who are graduates of tertiary institutions in the UK and are working in blue chip companies.
She is one of the many female veterans loved by the ‘21st Century actors’ in the movie industry as reports go around that she has a heart-warming personality.
