The All Progressives
Congress (APC) has alleged that, the Rivers State Governor-elect, Chief
Nyesom Wike, is evading service of the court process of the petition
challenging his election.
The
APC told the Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on
Wednesday, May 13, that all attempts by the bailiff to effect the
service on Wike, had been futile due to the uncooperative attitude of
the governor-elect.
According
to Leadership, the Counsel to APC, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, (SAN)
alleged that the people in the house of the governor were frustrating
efforts of the bailiff to serve him the court process.
He
said the bailiff had tried on several occasions to affect the court
service on Wike, but was turned back at the gate upon discovery that he
is a court bailiff.
Akeredolu, therefore, prayed that the tribunal grant an order for substituted service on the governor-elect.
Justice
Muazu Abdulkadir Pindiga, who granted the prayer, ordered that the
substituted service be effected on the defendant. He said the court
process should either by pasted on the gate of his house or at the
office of the state’s PDP secretariat.
Wike’s
victory in the Rivers gubernatorial election has been strongly opposed
by the opposition party, which approached the election petition tribunal
to challenge Wike’s emergence as the governor-elect. The opposition
alleges several irregularities and massive rigging during the poll.
