The President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari as assured the nation that perpetrators of electoral violence will not go unpunished.
The president-elect says he will not permit those who perpetrated electoral violence during the last general poll to go unpunished.
Buhari was on Wednesday, May 13, receiving a delegation from Rivers state led by former Sir Gabriel Toby, Deputy Governor of the state.
Former Head of State said his administration reposes on Nigerians the responsibility of ensuring that those who trample on their rights are prosecuted.
Buhari said: “We will confront them with facts and figures. We will not forgive and forget those who perpetrated killings and arson in Rivers State during the elections. At least this is the much we owe to Nigerians.”
Meanwhile, the president-elect assured the nation that it will certainly get the respect they earn from administration, continuing that “there will not an army within the army or a police within the police.”
Toby, who was a deputy governor during Dr. Peter Odili’s government in the state, told reporters they were in Abuja to commend Buhari and brief him on what transpired in the state during the polls.
He said what transpired during presidential and the governorship polls did not indicate the wishes of Rivers people.
It should be noted that the Rivers state Commission of Inquiry probing politically-motivated killings in the state before and during the 2015 general polls continues its hearing today.
The Commission was instituted by Rotimi Amaechi, the Rivers state governor.
It is also investigating damage to properties and grievous bodily harms to persons ahead and during the presidential and gubernatorial elections in the state.
