Civil servants in Osun State have issued a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Rauf Aregebsola to pay all outstanding salaries owed workers or face industrial action.
Civil
servants in the state have been in a bitter struggle with the state
government over its failure to pay their salaries for the past six
months.
According
to Tribune, the workers arrived at the decision on Tuesday, May 12,
2015, following a breakdown of a meeting between the labour and
representatives of the government.
The
labour unions in the state maintained that the payment of workers
outstanding salaries within the stipulated period remained the only way
to resolve the industrial dispute.
The
state leadership of the NLC, TUC warned that, if the government failed
to meet their demands, workers in the state would embark on an
industrial action after the ultimatum expires.
The
workers revealed that the last salary they received from the government
was a part-payment for the month of November, adding that since then
they have not collected any other salary.
During the 2015 Workers Day celebrations, workers in Osun boycotted the ceremony in reaction to the non-payment of their salaries by the state government.
