UNIUYO STUDENTS’ UNION ELECTIONS SUSPENDED
The Management of the University
of Uyo has suspended the 2014\2015 session Students’ Elections until further
notice.
A suspension order
signed by the Registrar of the University, Mrs Edak Umondak which was handed
over to all students and members of the university community in a letter dated April
22, 2015 with Reference No. UU\REG\DAA\159\Vol.29\73 reads :
“The
University Management has directed the suspension until further notice, the
on-going processes, which was to culminate in the 2014\2015 session Students’ Union
Elections.
“The
reason for the suspension, is based on the fact that the atmosphere is not
conducive for elections, as some issues have been raised by students’ of the Faculty
of Engineering vide a letter dated 22 April 2015 and signed by 136 students’ of
the Faculty. All issues raised by the students have to be investigated to avoid
any wrong interpretation.
“Management
has consequently decided that on-going processes be suspended to allow proper
investigation into the issues raised by these students and for appropriate action
to be taken.
“The
Vice-Chancellor on behalf of the Management has therefore appealed to all
parties concerned to remain calm until issues raised are appropriately addressed.
All students’ are also advised to go about their usual routines peacefully and
resist any form of temptation to engage in acts that may lead to a breakdown of
law and order. Students are particularly advised to maintain the peace in
campus.”
