Youths in Niger state protested at the headquarters of the National Examination Council (NECO) on Wednesday to plead for a native of the state be selected as chief executive of the council.
According to the Tribune online, the youths under the auspices of the Nigerian Youth Congress (NYC), Niger State chapter, petitioned the headquarters of the examination body, led by Comrade Mustapha Tijani, the state chairman of the congress
In a peaceful protest the youths appealed to President Jonathan to entrust the leadership of the council to any qualified professor from the state.
Tijani, who spoke with journalists, pointed out that in spite of a conducive and peaceful working environment created by the people of the state since the inception of the defunct National Board for Education Measurement that transformed to NECO, the federal government had not considered appointing a chief executive of the council from the state.
Meanwhile, a supervisor with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was killed last Monday on his way to Ayila village to conduct WAEC examinations, making him the latest victim of Agatu communal clashes, The Sun online reports.
The violence has been raging between the Egba and Ologba communities in Agatu since last Friday, and 45 people are feared killed.
