A community radio station 'TAO FM in Okene, Adavi Local Government Area in Kogi State was bombed yesterday at about 7 pm. Four people lost their lives while several others sustained injuries in the attack.
The radio station, which broadcasts mostly in Ebira language, is known for its radical stance on political analysis of the people of Ebira land, Premium Times reports.
According to witnesses, the bomb exploded at the radio station, operating on 101.5 frequency, at about 7 pm on April 27, Monday.
“The attack on Ta’o FM started at about 7PM when we began to hear series of gun shots and everyone began to scamper to safety before the blast went off. After the explosion everything became quiet. It was later that we heard that four persons within the FM station got killed and several others were injured. I saw many injured people being helped to the hospital by volunteers, most of them were soaked with blood”, said Medinatu Ajayi, a resident of Kuroko.
Vanguard reports that those killed were mainly security personnel, who might have confronted the assailants as they were trying to deliver their deadly goods.
The reason for bombing the radio was not known as no group had claimed responsibility for the attack.
Confirming the incident, Shola Collins, the state police public relations officer, said that police detectives had already been mobilized to the scene of the incident. Collins said the attack affected part of the radio station building, adding that four persons had already been confirmed dead, while many were still in various hospitals in the area.
The officer stressed that the police would do anything humanly possible to find those behind the act and bring them to justice.
