We Will Challenge The Outcome Of Akwa Ibom Election To Court - Umana Umana

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umana Umana, has said that the party will challenge the result of the April 11 governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state Punch reports.

Umana, who disclosed this on Saturday night at a meeting with leaders, elders, members and stakeholders of the party in Uyo, revealed that the party has engaged a formidable legal team to challenge the outcome of the elections which the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won.

He said, “We will ask for the purported elections to be upturned and a proper one conducted. Indeed, there was no election on April 11 in Akwa Ibom State.”

Umana noted that a team of lawyers led by a renowned Lagos-based Senior Advocate of Nigeria has been hired by the national headquarters of APC, describing the move as a sign of the party’s unflinching conviction to challenge the results.

Also speaking at the meeting, the party’s state chairman, Dr. Amadu Atai, noted that the APC has collated a body of evidence to prove in court that elections never held in the state on April 11.

The chairman announced that the PDP was busy looking for disgruntled APC members, especially, chapter chairmen, who had previously been disciplined by the party, to get them to send a congratulatory message to the governor-elect, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.

“If there was a proper election, the PDP would not be scouting around for signatures of people to congratulate them. We will surely reclaim our stolen mandate in the next few months,” Atai said.

Meanwhile the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Barrister Austine Eni Okojie, has said that he cannot reverse the results of the April 11th, 2015 governorship and house of assembly elections as announced by the commission.
